This hub is a clearinghouse for research on UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 5: Gender Equality, published across Springer Nature. It features selected research from Springer Nature's journals, special issues, and cross-journal article collections, as well as selected books and book chapters. The curated research covers topics including gender equality, women's empowerment, and women's rights, and more.

Science Storytelling for the SDGs at the UNGA Science Summit 2023

An evening of science storytelling from researchers brought together by Springer Nature, Story Collider and the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN).

The event, which was led by Scientific American’s Laura Helmuth, involved a panel talking about their careers and experience working in research areas targeting SDGs 5, 7 and 10. The aim was to shine a light on the people behind the research who are working to find solutions to the challenges presented by the SDGs, but also to amplify the importance of effective science communication for accessibility, inclusion and driving forward progress.

Intersectionality and gender

Gender equality should also be viewed through the broader lens of intersectionality, or how different axes of discrimination cross each other to amplify their exclusionary effects on already minoritized groups. Below you can find a number of chapters and articles published by the Springer Nature on the intersection of gender, race, sexual identity and others.

Female research pioneers who changed the world

Women have made significant impacts on our world with their pioneering research discoveries, theories and innovations. These steadfast women made the decision to pursue their scientific and research passions even when presented with enormous gender discrimination, doubters, disbelievers, and naysayers. Their mark in history is significant and the impact of their pioneering research continues to teach and inspire students, researchers, explorers, innovators and individuals seeking to further improve the world today.

Click on each pioneer to explore the research they continue to inspire across the our book and journal portfolios.

The SN Women Network

SN Women x UN Women © Springer Nature 2021At Springer Nature (SN), diversity and inclusion is at the core of how we work and who we are. Our employee-networks focus on fostering dialogue around diversity, community building, advice and advocacy. The SN Women global network provides a forum to promote gender equality and support self-defining women across Springer Nature to achieve their personal and professional ambitions.

Among other initiatives, SN Women invite external experts, often SN authors, to give talks to colleagues about their experience as female pioneers in their fields. Watch recordings of these talks at the blogs below.

This March to honour International Women's Day and in line with our SN Women's credo to ACT, we are #ChoosingtoChallenge by standing up for women in leadership in this time of crisis.
