Springer Nature increases its publishing choices for authors

London, 9 July 2018

Two new highly inclusive, broad appeal journals in the fields of applied sciences and clinical medicine are being launched by Springer Nature under a new imprint ‘SN’. SN Applied Sciences and SN Comprehensive Clinical Medicine are the first journals to be published using the ‘SN’ name, an indication of the value the company believes sound science journals have to offer to the research community.

SN Comprehensive Clinical Medicine will publish articles from more than 75 medical specialities grouped under three broad categories: imaging, surgery and medicine. The scope of SN Applied Sciences reflects the increasing need for journals to publish articles on applications and industry-related research in Engineering, Technology, Earth and Environmental Science, Chemistry, Materials and Applied Physics. The journal will especially serve authors from emerging regions in the world, including those from Asia who are increasingly prolific in these subject areas.

These journals support the company’s ambition of ensuring that all scientifically sound research that has been completed in these research fields and passes peer-review can be published at Springer Nature. Authors will be able to choose to publish their research either for free, with the publishing costs being covered by academic institutions via library deals or, on payment of an Article Processing Charge (APC), via open access, where these articles are universally accessible and immediately free to read from the point of publication. The journals will be open for submissions from July 2018.

Steven Inchcoombe, Chief Publishing Officer at Springer Nature, said:

“We want all authors to be able to find a suitable home for their research findings at Springer Nature.  The addition of these new highly inclusive, broad appeal journals under this new imprint will complement Nature Communications and Scientific Reports which cover all the natural sciences and take us a significant step forward in providing the research community with a comprehensive range of publishing options. SN Comprehensive Clinical Medicine and SN Applied Sciences will allow us to offer our authors more and improved publishing possibilities for the increasing amounts of research being undertaken.”
