First two journals in the new Nature Progress series go live
London | New York | Berlin 2nd April 2026
The first two journals in the new Nature-branded journal series Nature Progress, are now live. Nature Progress Brain Health and Nature Progress Oncology will broaden author choice and expand access to high‑quality research, accelerating progress in these critical research fields.
Led by specialist in-house editors, the two new series journals will also draw upon the expertise of Editorial Board Members, who will advise on editorial suitability, support the peer review process and help develop content ideas and collection topics. This collaborative approach ensures rigorous standards while reflecting the diversity of global research.
Nature Progress Oncology will publish high-quality primary research across basic, translational and clinical oncology. The journal launches at a time when cancer incidence is rising significantly, with predictions of a 77% increase through 2050 from the estimated 20 million cases in 2022 (data from WHO/IARC). This underscores the urgent need for new research and treatments to improve survival and quality of life. The journal will be led by Deputy Editor Kathryn McGinnis.
Nature Progress Brain Health will span translational neuroscience, neurology and neuropsychiatry, and will be led by Deputy Editor Rebecca Wright. Neurological conditions are the leading causes of disability-adjusted life years worldwide, and account for 9 million deaths annually (data from WHO) with the burden disproportionately affecting low- and middle-income countries. Both journals will prioritise global representation of their research communities with their content and across their Editorial Boards.
