Heidelberg | New York, 22 September 2016

© SpringerNow in its 20th year, SpringerLink, the comprehensive online delivery platform created by the global publisher Springer, has reached a total of 10 million documents. Founded in 1996, SpringerLink paved the way for the publisher’s transition from traditional print media to electronic publishing. SpringerLink was one of the first online information services dedicated to scientific research. It now hosts an enormous electronic collection of STM books, journals, reference works, protocols and databases and is the world’s leading research platform.

Over 5.8 million journal articles, 3.7 million chapters, 500,000 reference work entries and 43,000 protocols are now available on SpringerLink and the number is constantly growing. Subject areas range from astronomy to social sciences and from medicine to engineering. Springer’s eBook offer on SpringerLink is the largest collection of STM eBooks in the world, featuring more than 219,000 titles. SpringerLink, updated regularly with the latest technologies, has sophisticated search and discovery tools to help scientists worldwide facilitate their research.

Springer has been in the publishing business since 1842. With the advent of the Internet and digital publishing, Springer established SpringerLink in 1996 as an online platform with 100 journals (now over 3,000). It later added book series, reference works, data collections and the Journals Archives. In 2006 the Springer eBook program was launched and in 2013 the Springer Book Archives with over 110,000 retrodigitized books was added to the platform. These previously hard-to-find journals and books in the archives are available electronically on SpringerLink and in print, giving scientists access to the works and discoveries of the past.

Springer for Research & Development (rd.springer.com), a content platform dedicated to corporate markets and their researchers’ needs, was created in 2012. All articles in Springer for R&D are taken from SpringerLink and provide content of special interest to the researchers in the industry sector, ranging from oil and gas to telecommunications.

In 2016, the integration of Palgrave Macmillan humanities and social science publications added over 20,000 books and more than 50 journals to SpringerLink. The platform is continuously evolving and recently new journal pages have been introduced, optimized for easy reading on various mobile devices. Features such as Online First, Open Choice, MyCopy, SpringerAlerts, Altmetric, Bookmetrix and UNSILO enhance the platform, making it an invaluable, flexible source of information for researchers and professionals.
