Springer Nature celebrates publications by 2019 Nobel Prize laureates

Articles, chapters and books by this year’s Nobel laureates are honored and acknowledged on a specially dedicated website

London | New York | Heidelberg, 16 October 2019

The winners of this year’s Nobel Prizes for medicine/physiology, physics, chemistry and economics have collectively published over 300 articles, book chapters and books with Springer Nature. To celebrate the prolific and diverse contribution these scientists have made to their respective fields and beyond, Springer Nature is opening up a selection of these publications so that they are freely accessible until 12 December 2019. Articles and chapters that are published open access are available freely on a permanent basis.
The oldest publication in the collection is by one of this year’s chemistry laureates, John B. Goodenough, and is a contribution on magnetism and magnetic materials called cation-cation three-membered ring formation to a proceedings volume published under the Springer imprint in 1967. In contrast, among the most recent publications is a review paper on the implications of hypoxia signaling in nephrology by medicine/physiology winner, Peter J. Ratcliffe, which was published at the beginning of September 2019 in Nature Reviews Nephrology. Other publications include entries in reference works and databases, protocols and magazine articles, such as this Scientific American article on the evolution of the universe authored by James E. Peebles in 1994.
Steven Inchcoombe, Chief Publishing and Solutions Officer at Springer Nature, said “Once again, we are truly honored and humbled that some of the best scientists in the world entrust us with their publications. When we look back on achievements such as the lithium ion battery, or the discovery of exoplanets, it is hugely motivating to recognize our role in communicating discoveries of all types, from incremental developments to major breakthroughs. We continuously strive to provide all of our authors with the appropriate outlet for their research, whether that is a specialist journal, comprehensive reference work or a high-profile magazine, and we make sure that this research can be shared and accessed by as many people as possible. As we engage in our mission to advance discovery, we look forward to remaining the chosen publisher for researchers today and tomorrow.”
The publications can be accessed through the following dedicated website
