- Ensures manuscripts adhere to all journal policies
- Communicates with academic editors and authors to facilitate the publication process
- Identify areas where Section Heads or Associate Editors are required
- Commissions reviews and/or selects manuscripts for peer review, manages peer review process
- Writes editorial summaries and press releases, and other written content
- Facilitates communication between authors and reviewers
- Organises lab visits and attends conferences
- Identifies stories to cover, write and/or assign to writers
- Edit copy to tight, coherent and compelling narratives
- Posts stories online, add hyperlinks, related stories, story collections, and other digital tasks
- Responsible for the published content of the journal
