Roles & Responsibilities

Assistant Editor

  • Ensures manuscripts adhere to all journal policies
  • Communicates with academic editors and authors to facilitate the publication process
  • Identify areas where Section Heads or Associate Editors are required

Associate Editor (Journals)

  • Commissions reviews and/or selects manuscripts for peer review, manages peer review process
  • Writes editorial summaries and press releases, and other written content
  • Facilitates communication between authors and reviewers
  • Organises lab visits and attends conferences

Associate Editor (Magazines)

  • Identifies stories to cover, write and/or assign to writers
  • Edit copy to tight, coherent and compelling narratives
  • Posts stories online, add hyperlinks, related stories, story collections, and other digital tasks

Chief Editor

  • Responsible for the published content of the journal
  • Develops a strategic direction for the journal
  • Recruits, trains and plans the professional development of editorial staff

Commissioning Editor

  • Assesses and develops book publishing proposals
  • Monitors market trends to identify competitive publishing opportunities for our books programmes
  • Maintains a network of authors, negotiates publishing contracts and pitches book publishing projects to senior colleagues

Editor

  • Responsible for the published content of the journal or series of journals
  • Develops a strategic direction for a journal or series of journals
  • Builds communication with editorial board members and scientific community

Editorial Assistant

  • Supporting journals; manages the flow of manuscripts through our tracking system. Supporting books; organises peer review of new and revised submissions
  • Supports editors, authors and reviewers
  • Point of contact across different departments, including Production, Art and Press


Journal Development Editor

  • Encourages manuscript submission through active promotion of the journal
  • Point of contact for external individuals related to the journal and internal departments such as marketing and sales
  • Assesses each journals need for development, define objectives for each journal
  • Translates company objectives into journal development, oversee new journal launches

Manuscript Assistant

  • Ensures manuscripts adhere to all journal policies on submission
  • Communicates with editorial board members

Publishing Assistant (Journals with in-house editors)

  • Carries out research for new products and product development
  • Builds and maintain reports, monitor performance of products
  • Communicates with market research team and editorial teams

Publishing Assistant (Journals with in-house editors and Editorial Board Members)

  • Selects editorial board members for manuscript processing
  • Ensures manuscripts adhere to all journal policies, oversees all decisions sent to authors
  • Communicates with editorial board members

Publishing Editor

  • Assesses and develops book publishing proposals.
  • Monitors market trends to identify competitive publishing opportunities for our books.
  • Maintains a network of authors, negotiates publishing contracts and pitches book publishing projects to senior colleagues.

Reporter

  • Identifies topics for news and feature articles
  • Identifies pertinent sources and conduct interviews
  • Writes clear, accurate and well-structured articles
