Russian scientists gain access to Springer Nature content through national license agreement

A new landmark agreement ensures scientists at all academic and governmental scientific organizations in Russia have access to Springer Nature publications

Heidelberg | Moscow, 5 September 2018

Springer Nature and the Russian Foundation for Basic Research (RFBR) have signed a major agreement that will benefit researchers, post docs and students based at Russian research institutions. As of July 2018, Russian institutions now have access to all Springer journals, Nature and all Nature-branded journals including new launches, and the Academic journals on nature.com. Palgrave Macmillan publications, Scientific American, as well as the databases SpringerMaterials and SpringerProtocols, and the mathematics abstracting and reviewing service zbMATH are also included in the deal.

Around 1600 organizations across Russia can now access Springer Nature content through this license and this is being communicated to researchers at these institutes in webinars, workshops, conference presentations and a specially dedicated landing page on the RFBR website.

Asdaa Kotani, Vice President of Institutional Sales at Springer Nature, said: “We are proud to expand our long-term and trusted partnership with the Russian Foundation for Basic Research and ensure that our content is accessible to all researchers at Russian academic and governmental institutions. We are now working hard to raise awareness of this content availability to our contacts in the institutions, so that researchers have all the material available to them to drive research and advance discovery.”

Oleg Belyavsky, Director of the Russian Foundation for Basic Research, said: “The launch of this national subscription is a highly important step for RFBR and the Russian research and academic community. Online access to scientific resources of one of the most authoritative publishers plays an essential role in increasing Russian scientific output and overall visibility of Russian research.”
