Springer Nature’s Ebola research content freely available following World Health Organization's PHEIC declaration

London | New York | Berlin, 22 May 2026

A broad body of recent and relevant Ebola virus and disease research published by Springer Nature has been made freely available to support the global response to the current outbreak of Bundibugyo virus (a species of Ebolavirus), following the World Health Organization’s declaration of a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC).

A dedicated free online resource will bring together key research and insights related to both Ebola virus and disease, highlighting relevant primary research articles, both subscription and open access, published over the past 12 months, alongside earlier studies and reviews identified as important for understanding the disease and supporting ongoing public health efforts.  The collection will be updated as new research becomes available and as further related content is identified. Any additional content identified by researchers and confirmed as relevant will be added to the collection.

All content within this collection will be free to access for the duration of the PHEIC, in line with Springer Nature’s established approach to supporting the dissemination of research in such situations. The initiative spans all journals across the Springer Nature portfolio and is intended to ensure that researchers, clinicians, public health professionals and the general public can access relevant evidence without barriers.

Springer Nature is a long-standing signatory to international statements on data and research sharing during public health emergencies. This action forms part of that broader commitment to facilitating timely access to information that may support efforts to address disease outbreaks, with similar actions taken for past PHEICs.
