Nature Publishing Group partners with Nanjing Tech University in publishing npj Flexible Electronics

London | Shanghai, 1 March 2016

Nature Publishing Group, part of Springer Nature, today signed an agreement with Nanjing Tech University to co-publish a new open access journal npj Flexible Electronics. With the new journal, both parties aim to build up a top-tier interdisciplinary platform for scientists to share and promote research and applications of flexible electronics.

As a technology for assembling electronic circuits on flexible substrates, flexible electronics involves organic optoelectronic devices, organic solar cells, wearable sensors, flexible thin film transistors, organic memories, flexible energy storage and conversion devices, etc., with a vast potential of applications ranging from wearable devices to implantable healthcare and consumer electronics.

npj Flexible Electronics will publish original papers, review articles and short communications to reflect the latest breakthrough and developments taking place in all aspects of flexible electronics, especially in advanced flexible materials, flexible optoelectronic devices, novel phenomena related to flexible devices, advanced fabrication techniques of flexible devices and their applications.

“Clearly we’re at a very high starting point given the partnership that combines our strengths as a publisher of high impact research and our partner’s strong academic reputation,” said Steven Inchcoombe, Managing Director and President of Nature Publishing Group. “Equally important, we both share the vision to disseminate scientific research through open access, which is a particularly ideal publishing model for interdisciplinary and rapidly growing research fields, such as flexible electronics.”

“With many a new application being created, there is a big demand for establishing a platform and a knowledge pool to facilitate exchange of ideas and findings related to flexible electronics among scientists with different tech expertise. We’re delighted to partner with Springer Nature to address such an unmet need,” said Prof. Wei Huang, President of Nanjing Tech University and Editor-in-Chief of the new journal.

Prof. Wei Huang is an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and expert in Organic Optoelectronics, who has published more than 500 academic papers in SCI Journals as the first author or corresponding author, and is currently an invited reviewer for many well-known international academic journals and a number of international academic foundations.

Nature Partner Journals (NPJ) are a new series of online open access journals published by Springer Nature in collaboration with world-renowned international partners, which bring high-quality, peer-reviewed original research to the global scientific community. Prior to signing npj Flexible Electronics with Nanjing Tech University, Springer Nature has partnered respectively with one research institute and two universities in publishing three Nature Partner Journals in China.

npj Flexible Electronics will open for submissions in May 2016. More information on the Nature Partner Journal programme can be found here.

About Nanjing Tech University

Nanjing Tech University (NJTech) is a comprehensive university with engineering as its focus and has a history of more than one hundred years. The university was established by merging the former Nanjing University of Chemical Technology and the former Nanjing Institute of Architecture and Civil Engineering in May 2001. The origin of Nanjing University of Chemical Technology can be traced back to Sanjiang Normal School established in 1902, and Nanjing Institute of Architecture and Civil Engineering was formerly the Department of Mechanics of Tongji Medical and Engineering School established in 1915.

The University has 29 colleges and close to 30,000 students, including overseas students, undergraduates, and master's degree and PhD candidates. The Institute of Advanced Materials (IAM) on the university’s campus is a research institute for flexible electronics, staffed by over 60 faculty members and led by Professor Wei HUNAG, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and President of NJTech. Its interdisciplinary research focus is on materials and phenomena related to flexible optoelectronic devices, such as organic optoelectronic devices, flexible bioelectronic devices, nanomaterials based flexible devices and flexible devices for energy storage and conversion.
