Three new Nature titles: Nature Energy, Nature Microbiology and Nature Reviews Materials

New York, 11 January 2016

Three new titles join the Nature family of journals today: Nature Energy, Nature Microbiology and Nature Reviews Materials

The provision of energy is a key issue at the heart of modern society: where do we get it from, how do we use it, and is there enough of it for what we want? Nature Energy is dedicated to publishing the highest quality natural and social sciences research exploring all aspects of this ongoing discussion, from the generation and storage of energy, to its distribution and management, the needs and demands of the different actors, and the impacts that energy technologies and policies have on societies.

"Nature Energy will facilitate the interdisciplinary discussions needed to solve societal challenges in the energy realm," said Chief Editor, Dr Nicky Dean. “The first issue highlights a wide selection of diverse work from the many different areas of energy research, including commercialisation of new technologies, the future of carbon capture and storage, studies on battery science, solar cells, catalysis, and policy analysis on energy issues."

Nature Microbiology brings together both researchers and policy makers interested in learning about the most accomplished and notable advances in the field. It will publish the highest quality research covering all aspects of microorganisms: their evolution, physiology and cell biology, their interactions with each other, with a host or with an environment and their societal significance.

“The volume and quality of microbiology research has grown rapidly over the past decade and we are delighted to launch Nature Microbiology to host this important research," said Chief Editor, Dr Andrew Jermy. “In the first issue we are excited to feature a wide selection of diverse work from the many different areas of microbiology, including development of viral culture systems, recent and future directions for microbiome research, studies on bacterial pathogenesis, biofilms, fungal evolution, viral evolution, symbiosis and more. "

In addition to original research, Nature Energy and Nature Microbiology will also publish Commentaries, Review articles, News and Views, and Correspondence covering the many issues of interest to their respective communities.

Nature Reviews Materials is the first physical sciences journal in the Nature Reviews family and emulates the principles of authoritative and high-quality Reviews content. The Reviews provide an informative introduction to materials scientists embarking on a new topic of investigation yet providing thought-provoking, in-depth sections for the expert.

Nature Reviews Materials builds on the success of Nature Materials, the top rated journal in its sector. It covers the making, measuring, modeling and manufacturing of materials - thus, looking at materials science throughout the pipeline of laboratory discovery to functional device.

“The first issue of Nature Reviews Materials outlines the computational design of energy materials, the latest advances in photovoltaic devices, the surface properties of superhydrophobic and icephobic materials, the synthesis of carbon nanostructures and the design of pro-angiogenic materials,” said Chief Editor Dr Alison Stoddart.

Like all Nature-branded journals, Nature Energy, Nature Microbiology and Nature Reviews Materials are staffed by an in-house team of professional editors and are characterized by a fair and rigorous peer-review process, high standards of copy-editing and production, swift publication and editorial independence. They are available to online personal subscribers and via institutional site license.

These three new titles join our wider portfolio of 35 Nature-branded subscription journals available on nature.com, which also offers authors and readers a growing array of OA choices.  Last year, over 60% of articles published on nature.com were made freely available via open access.
