30 million downloads of open access book chapters at Springer Nature

Springer Nature’s open access books have achieved the milestone of more than 30 million chapter downloads since 2013.
Readers of these 512 open access books are based in over 150 countries across the globe1. The average is 58,700 chapter downloads per book.
Through its renowned book imprints Springer, Palgrave Macmillan, Apress and J.B. Metzler, Springer Nature publishes a wide range of books across the humanities and social sciences as well as in science, technology and medicine.
Notable open access authors include Gerard t'Hooft, winner of the 1999 Nobel Prize in Physics and Sir Timothy Berners-Lee, inventor of the World Wide Web and winner of the 2016 ACM A.M. Turing Award.
Any user can download these open access books for free from SpringerLink, as well as through third-party hosting platforms such as Amazon Kindle, Google Scholar, Apple Books, PubMed’s NCBI Bookshelf and funders’ own platforms.

Springer Nature publishes both OA and hybrid books and series, and partners with, amongst others, International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement, IMISCOE (International Migration, Integration and Social Cohesion), Max Planck, and Simula Research Laboratory.
