Nature Food, Nature Cancer and Nature Reviews Earth and Environment will join the Nature Research portfolio of journals from January 2020
London, 4 February 2019
Nature Food, Nature Cancer and Nature Reviews Earth and Environment will join the Nature Research portfolio of journals from January 2020. These new titles will allow Springer Nature to continue to meet the ever-evolving needs of the research community by publishing significant discoveries related to some of the most pressing challenges of our time.
By 2050 the global population will likely hit 10 billion people, and science will play a crucial role in tackling both hunger and obesity as the population rises.* The scope of Nature Food is broad and interdisciplinary, bringing together research from a wide range of communities such as food production and distribution, food economics, ethics and policy, and food science and human nutrition.
Cancer is a global health problem with the number of cancer cases worldwide predicted to rise from 18.1 million in 2018 to 29.5 million in 2040.** Nature Cancer will accommodate articles from the life and clinical sciences, materials science and drug discovery as well as research on the socioeconomic implications of cancer. The new journal will therefore provide a unique and interdisciplinary outlet for cancer-related research every month.
In addition to primary research, Nature Food and Nature Cancer will publish Reviews, Comments, Features, Perspectives, and News & Views pieces covering the many issues of interest to their respective communities.
Nature Reviews Earth and Environment will showcase authoritative, and accessible, commissioned Reviews, Technical Reviews, Perspectives, Research Highlights, News & Views and Comments within geoscience, environmental sciences, climate change and sustainability. Impressive graphics and enhanced content provide context and connection for readers with expertise in many different disciplines. Given human interactions with the Earth and environment, societal implications – be it from a sustainability, policy, or economic perspective – will also be featured.
All titles will be online-only, subscription-based journals that will open for submissions in 2019, with their first issues published in January 2020. As with all Nature Research journals, these three new titles employ highly-trained and critically-minded editors to work solely to ensure that scientifically significant papers are selected for publication. The journals will offer rigorous peer-review, high standards of copy-editing and production, swift publication and editorial independence.
James Butcher, Vice President Nature Research & BMC, said: “Nature journals provide a unique opportunity for researchers to reach a broad constituency of academics and policy makers. We aim to launch innovative new Nature journals across the natural, applied and social sciences, using our convening power to bring together communities that are tackling some of global society’s most pressing and important challenges.”
