Pleiades Publishing and Springer Nature announce a new phase of their long standing partnership
London, 26 February 2020
Pleiades Publishing and Springer Nature announce a new phase of their long standing partnership:
Commencing in 1993, the two companies have evolved their relationship from distributing scientific journals originating in the former USSR, to comprise all aspects of digital delivery, including extensive subscription agreements (often referred to as “Big Deals”) which last year enabled over 400 million user sessions via over 10,000 libraries on SpringerLink. Under the new arrangement, the companies will now offer a full selection of transformative opportunities to maximize their customers’ researchers’ options in the emerging world of Open Access and Big Data.
In the dynamic world of today’s scientific information, the new contract preserves the reach of Pleiades’ base of some 190 English journals (emanating from some 270 local language journals), which comprise the core of the Russian Library of Science. The new arrangement enables authors from thousands of non-translated journals to seamlessly submit their articles to thematic journal clusters at all levels of the Pleiades and Springer Nature collections. This arrangement and the tools it provides preserve and strengthen local language publishing programs, while allowing authors, at the click of a button, the immediate opportunity, skills and resources to be part of the world’s largest and highly cited collection of titles, including Springer Nature’s 2200 hybrid journals and 600 Open Access journals. Last year, this database delivered more than 1 billion downloads of articles and book chapters.
The collaboration extends to gold OA, hybrid journals, ebooks, custom publishing opportunities and the Nature training and custom publishing tools needed to help Russian research align with the OA Plan S principles already communicated by cOAlition S. Moreover, each author will benefit from an evolving and industry leading suite of services, promotional resources, and support.
Steven Inchcoombe, Chief Publishing and Solutions Officer at Springer Nature, said:
"Springer Nature is committed to applying an Open Science approach globally because of the benefits it provides to the whole research system, accelerating the discovery process. Our long-term close relationship with Pleiades and their unique understanding of the research systems of the countries that make up the former USSR, their researchers and institutions means they are an invaluable partner to work with and we look forward to serving, with them, these research communities, helping to better connect them with global science."
Alexander Shustorovich, President Pleiades/Allerton Publishing, said:
“Given the rapidly evolving world of scientific information, we are proud that our long term partnership with Springer Nature has not only survived the challenges but has strengthened to provide numerous new proactive opportunities to our content partners. As a result, these institutions and authors will have unprecedented access to the global reach and visibility of our English language state of the art platform and support services while preserving and strengthening their domestic, native language publishing ecosystem.”
