Nature Climate Change at 15
London, 10 April 2026
Nature Portfolio’s first thematic journal marks its 15-year anniversary with a special issue and reflections on how the world has changed since its first publication
The internationally renowned climate science journal Nature Climate Change celebrates its fifteen-year anniversary this month.
For over a decade, the publication has been at the forefront of the climate conversation; sharing ground-breaking research, observing the reality of the climate crisis and reporting on landmark moments of action.
The first interdisciplinary journal in the Nature Portfolio publishes research that advances discovery and explores practical solutions, with its content frequently appearing in Carbon Brief’s annual top 10 most talked-about climate-related papers.
Its anniversary editorial, published today, reflects on how climate research has evolved since the journal’s first issue in 2011 and why evidence-based optimism matters.
“Climate change is a profound challenge, the effects of which we can clearly quantify,” says Bronwyn Wake, Chief Editor of Nature Climate Change. “Over the past 15 years I have seen risks become clearer, but I have also seen the research response grow stronger and more connected. This is testament to the commitment and contributions of the research community. Publishing helps turn evidence into decisions by qualifying research, linking ideas across disciplines, and enabling others to build on what works. That steady progress matters, and it gives reason to stay focused, ambitious and engaged.”
Commenting on the anniversary, Thea Sherer, Springer Nature’s Vice President of Sustainability and Climate Action Officer said:
“At Springer Nature, we believe that publishing trusted, peer-reviewed climate research, and enabling it to reach the those who need it, is the greatest action we can take to help inform decision making in this rapidly changing area/important of research. We published more than 100k articles and book chapters across Springer Nature in 2025 alone, including those in Nature Climate Change. Congratulations to the whole team on such an important milestone.”
